Card for Today

Hey there!

I didn't get a picture of the new updated tree card yet, but I really want to start posting more frequently, so I have something else to share today. I made this card for my brother's birthday last month. The card stock and images are Stampin' Up! and the background paper is Basic Grey, Scarlet's Letter. Actually, the card stock is SU!'s new Basic Gray color, so the card was made with Basic Gray and Basic Grey-lol!I can't remember who the big giant red brad was from, but I think it was Bazzill. The brad was threaded through the black button- I thought the brad itself looked a little too plain. I used a silver gel pen on the bumbers and hubcaps, so that is why there is a glare there- the flash reflected off the metallic silver, so it looks almost white in the pic.

The first pic is the outside of the card, and the colors are more accurate:

The second pic shows the card open, but it was taken without a flash, and the colors are all yellowy and icky looking:

The second picture shows how the card opens. The left side closes first, and the right side closes on top of it. (the truck is on the outside of the open side of Happy Birthday.

I did the same card design on a card I did for my love, elsie class at BSS:

and the inside:

Sorry again for blurry pics. We will probably get a new camera on Black Friday as an early Christmas gift. In the meantime I will try to learn more about the one we are borrowing, so you don't have to suffer through another month of blurry photos.

I just want to add that I did not come up with this card lay-out myself. I have seen it around. I can't cite anyone specifically, since it is just something I had seen a few times here and there and remembered because I thought it was cool.

Enjoy your week-end!

Check this Out!

omg! You have got to check out the really cool little do-dad that Gina K put together (here) using 2 SU! punches. I mean, I am only guessing, but if I am not mistaken, that is the word window punch paired with the designer label punch. So cool!

3x3 Note Cards

Here are some 3x3 note cards that I made recently. The idea for the tree card came to me a while back when a SUSOL demo was looking for Christmas ideas using the Three for You Punch Box. I wasn't able to make up the sample at the time because I had a bunch of stuff going on, but I've been wanting to post the idea for some time. I stamped the flowers with the Three for You set and punched them out with the punch from the punch box. I made them dimentional by placing each flower into the palm of my hand and pressing into the center with the end of my watercolor paintbrush. An orange stick works great, too.

The scallop on the second card was made using a corner punch with the corner guard removed. I used the older SU! corner punch, since I didn't have the new one yet when I made this card. The leaves were made by punching out a green flower, then cutting the petals in to a point at the center. I turned them so the rounded side is hidden by the flower and the pointed side is out. You could just as easily free- hand cut the leaves.

The third card was made using the Cutie Pie DSP from the SU! catalog. The only stamping is the Thank You circle from the Seeing Spots set. The middle flower was punched from the paper using the 3 flower punch from the Three for You punch box. The scallop circle punch is from SU!

Sorry for the fuzzy photos. It's the best I can do with the camera I have to work with for now. We are looking into new cameras. If anyone wants to e-mail me with advice or recomendations, it would be appreciated!

Tomorrow I'll show an improved version of the tree card. I know it's a little plain- I just wanted to post the basic version, so you get the general idea.

Blog Candy Winner!

So- I'm a day late- sorry! My Aunt took me to the Casino in Niagara Falls for lunch yesterday as a birthday gift, and when I got home, I had to leave right away to teach a class. By the time I got back from class I was wiped. I had another this afternoon, and then had to prep for a class tomorrow, too! So I've been pretty busy. But on to the fun stuff!

The winner is:

janet allen

who said...
Hope you had a fun birthday. I have so many friends & family having October birthdays, and what a pretty time of year to celebrate!

Janet-send me an e-mail with your snail mail address, and I will send out your winnings, which include the stuff in the picture below, plus a couple of more goodies not pictured (I forgot to put the bling flowers, card sample, and a couple of other thing in the picture, but they're included in the package):

You can get a little better view by clicking the picture. Thanks to Debbie's post, I changed the size of the photo. However, the resolution is pretty bad now- so I guess I'll try changing the resolution in the camera. Trouble is, it's my FIL's camera- 'cuz ours broke. I never had a problem posting the pics with my camera, but now that I'm using my FIL's, I have a new appreciation for the one we had. Funny thing is, his was probably twice what ours cost (or triple), and ours was so much better! Buying a camera these days is like buying a car- you really need to know your stuff!

I'll be doing another blog candy give-away when I pass 5000 hits, which should be soon! I have lots of fun stuff to post this week, too. I'll get right on it after class tomorrow. Have a great week-end!

Love, Laura :)

Birthday Blog Candy!

It's my birthday, so I thought I'd give away some presents. Apparently that's a popular idea, because I saw a bunch of other blogs giving away birthday candy this week-end! Us Libras must all think alike. Anyway, I don't like blog candy give-aways that make you think too much. I don't mind answering an easy question or two, but I really don't like the ones that require you guess the answer to an obscure question.

So... for a chance to win, all you have to do is post a comment! If you want to add your favorite birthday quote or greeting, that would be fun- I'll compile and post them in a new blog entry if there's more than a few. But- you don't have to- you just have to leave a comment.

WHAT DO YOU WIN??? I have to take a pic, and I am going shopping for more stuff now-but I promise, it will be good yummy stamping stuff, and it will be birthday related.

To start- I have a package of Dress-it-up birthday buttons-super cute, Birthday confetti for your shaker cards, Some cuttle-bug'd birthday backgrounds- some on Bazzil Bling Cardstock and some on SU! Cardstock, a couple of Bazzil Bling flowers, and a Stampin' Up! card sample using new ribbons and a chipboard flower.
There will also be some stamps and more fun stuff. A pic of all of it will be posted later.

Drawing will be in 1 week via random number generator- Thursday Oct. 11- so post away!

BTW- today is my friend Elisabeth's birthday too- happy Birthday Elisabeth!

What's for dinner?

This is an actual converstion I had with my 9 yr old son, Lucas the other day. The kid totally cracks me up.

me: what do you want for dinner tonight?

son: we have lobster?

me: no.

son: hmm...well, do we have crab legs?

me: (laughing now)no!

son: umm...then I have no idea.

me: seriously? you can't think of anything you'd like for dinner besides lobster or crab legs?

son: (completely serious) nope. nothing.

Gotta love him!

Apple Cider criss-cross

Well, it's been so long since I posted an SU! sample, I thought I'd better do so!
This is a criss-cross applesauce card that I sent as a RAK-back to someone recently.
I didn't have good lighting for the pic, sorry. Anyway, it is made using all SU! cardstock, inks, and SU! Apple Cider bg paper from the Holiday mini catalog.
If you click the photo you can get a better view of the papers and ribbon- but it's coming out huge, and I don't know how to fix that just yet :(
